On 25th of April Faculty of Computer Science held a Workshop on Computer linguistics and language science, which was organized jointly by the Department of data analysis and artificial intelligence and the School of linguistics.

The Higher School of Economics is very serious about students getting involved in undergraduate research. For Russian Science Day, celebrated on February 8, the HSE News Service spoke with three young HSE researchers about their work and learned how the students set goals for themselves, achieve results, and move forward with what some might deem frighteningly ambitious research ideas.

Students of the School of Linguistics to Take Part in ATTEST

Anna Vechkaeva and Anna Novosyolova, 4th-year students of the School of Linguisitcs, will take part in the international research conference ‘Approaches to the Editing of Slavonic Texts. Tradition and Innovation in Palaeoslavistic Ecdotics’ (ATTEST) that will be held at the University of Regensburg on December 11-12. The students will present the report ‘The Dictionary of the Russian Language of the 11th-17th cc. as a Database: Information Retrieval and Research Perspectives’. The report is co-authored by the School lecturers Marina Bobrik-Froemke, Roman Krivko and Boris Orekhov.

Linguists away at Summer School
HSE lecturers and students took part in the 2015 Summer School near the town of Dubna from July 11 through August 10. The representatives of the HSE School of Linguistics organised two different workshops at this year’s School, one on Language and the Brain, aimed at research in the field of neurolinguistics, and one on Linguistics Research, the main areas of which included field linguistics and anthropology.

HSE Students Win Google’s Anita Borg Scholarships

Two HSE students have won the Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship, founded by Google to support women studying computer technology. The scholarship is awarded for academic achievement, leadership qualities and interest in computer sciences.

HSE Students Participated in SEFER’s Winter School on Jewish Studies

From February 3 – 6, 2015, students from the HSE took part in the Winter School on Jewish Studies organized by SEFER, a Russian-language centre for university teaching of Jewish studies. The School brought together people who study the Jewish culture, the Yiddish and Hebrew languages. Elizaveta Kuzmenko, a 3rd-year student of the School of Linguistics, told us about her participation in it.
