Alessia Benedetti: Internship at the School of Linguistics

My name is Alessia Benedetti, I am an Italian student at the second year of Master's degree in Modern, Postcolonial and Comparative Literature at the School of Foreign Languages and Literatures, Interpreting and Translation (University of Bologna). I have recently won a scholarship that allowed me to spend two months in Moscow. I came to town on September 27th and I stayed till November 30th. My aim was to find some materials for my Master thesis, which will be focused on the reception of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's “Faust” in Mikhail Bulgakov's “The Master and Margarita”, Thomas Mann's “Doctor Faustus” and in Alexander Sokurov's movies. During my stay, I had the chance to be admitted as an internship student by Moscow High School of Economics. This University is known in Italy to have one the best Departments of Linguistics in Russia. My main goals in studying at this institute were to improve my Russian language skills and to deepen my knowledge of Russian linguistics.

During my stay I had the opportunity to take part in a course titled “Russian Language through Literature, Film and Acting”, held by the professor Ekaterina Schnittke in the department of Russian Language for Foreigners. In class I got acquainted with cinema, theatre and other important aspects of Russian culture. In addition, I took a very interesting class about Lexical Typology prepared by Professor Ekaterina Rakhilina with the assistance of Tatiana Reznikova. Moreover, Professor Ekaterina Rakhilina kindly invited me to take part in a project devoted to the creation of a corpus. I can only be grateful for the warm reception I received at the High School of Economics. Furthermore, I would like to thank Nina Dobrushina for her support in finding an accommodation and in getting me access to institutions where I found priceless information for my thesis.

Lastly, I strongly recommend other foreign students to choose Moscow High School of Economics as a place of study.
