Annotation
The two lectures will introduce lexical typology understood as cross-linguistic research on domain categorization. We will open up by outlining the different views on what can be meant by lexical typology. We will then present the major critical theoretical and methodological issues inherent in it, where lexical typology has to find its own way in balancing between the ambitions of theoretical semantics, lexicography and general typology. We will give a brief survey of the major recent and on-going lexico-typological projects and look at a broad range of case studies that highlight key concepts in the field and advantages and disadvantages of different methodological approaches.
