Course author

Ekaterina V. Rakhilina

Course annotation

The main focus of the course will be on how different semantic systems (underlying particular lexical domains) can be compared cross-linguistically. This is not a straightforward task, and it still remains a big challenge for modern semantic theories. I shall briefly introduce the problems and current state-of-the art of lexical (or semantic) typology and then consider several case studies, involving different lexical groups of verbs and “quality words” viewed against the background of frame semantics.
